The African Natural Resource and Energy Investment Summit (AFNIS) is an annual event that is "organized under the auspices of the Federal Government of Nigeria with support from the Federal Ministries of Mines and Steel, Power, Petroleum, Environment, and Foreign Affairs" (About - AFNIS 2023 (afnisummit.com)).
This year, it was held in Abuja from October 31st to November 2nd, with the major topic "Towards a Just Transition," with talks centered on the following sub-themes:
· Developing Mining and Energy Projects
· Energy and Mobilizing Finance for Green Projects
· Power, Renewable Energy and Harnessing Africa’s Natural Resources
Segilola Resources Operating Limited (SROL) was there to participate, and engage government on critical discussions in Nigeria's extractive sectors, notably mining investment. Mr. Chris Omo-Osagie, CFO of Thor, spoke on a panel "Discussing the crucial role of finance and investment in driving the transition and utilizing Africa's Natural Resources."
Mr. Omo-Osagie emphasized the significance of enabling and supporting policies to help in the energy transition. He emphasized that SROL has completed the installation of compressed natural gas (CNG) generators and is migrating from diesel to CNG. The usage of compressed natural gas is predicted to lower GHG emissions significantly.
