SEGILOLA FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT - FOSTERING UNITY THROUGH FOOTBALL

SEGILOLA FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT - FOSTERING UNITY THROUGH FOOTBALL
It is this drive and passion that saw us birth the Segilola Football Tournament (SFT) in 2022. The immense success of the maiden tournament and the fact that SROL and the communities were actively looking forward to the next one, is one of the reasons why we were encouraged and even more poised to deliver a bigger and better tournament this year!
This year’s tournament was absolutely exhilarating! The activities were kicked off with remarks by SROL top management and community leadership in the host communities. They emphasized the aims, and the goals of the tournament, while reassuring the community of their renewed, and passionate commitment to unity in the community, through love for the beautiful game of football. Cultural dancers from the community followed next, brightening up the event and delivering energetic performances that portrayed the community’s rich culture and passed a message of unity, and togetherness. Then the games began!
The games in both the female and male categories began with high energy, with all teams putting in great effort and creating a highly competitive air. Team Segun and Team Alf, emerged as champions of the Male and Female tournaments after a great display of skill, tact, and zeal to go above and beyond to win.
This year’s edition of SFT exceeded all expectations, as everyone witnessed that not only do we have the potential and the power to foster unity, but also the potential to grow our next soccer stars by investing in the grassroots sports of these communities. As partners in the community, we are looking forward to the next edition and next year cannot come soon enough!
