Overview:
The Agbelere Market Garden is part of SROL’s Livelihood Restoration Programs, designed to empower PAPs through vegetable production and market-based agriculture. The program began with a needs assessment in 2021, followed by planning and implementation between 2021 and 2022.

SROL provided key agricultural resources including greenhouses for nursery operations, seedlings, irrigation systems, and a complete suite of agrochemicals (herbicides, fungicides, fertilizers). Forty PAPs received allowances during the first phase to support participation. Training sessions were conducted on market gardening, entrepreneurial skills, cooperative development, and agricultural business management.

Beneficiaries were organized into the Agbelere Cooperative, formally registered with the state ministry. The market garden currently comprises four vegetable farms, with two already in active use. More PAPs will be added as farms expand into the next phases.

SROL initiated the project by providing the following:

• Greenhouses for nursery operations
• Seedlings
• Herbicides, fungicides, fertilizers
• Irrigation systems
• Allowances for 40 PAPs (Phase 1)
• Hands-on training and entrepreneurial capacity building
• Formation of the Agbelere Cooperative.

Project Impact:
The program strengthens household income for PAPs, enhances food security, and promotes commercial vegetable production within the community.
