Segilola Women Initiative Program (SWIP) – Economically Empowering Host Community Women
The Segilola Women Initiative Program (SWIP) initiative commenced in 2021 as part of Community Development Agreements signed with host communities to provide transparent benefits from SROL to local residents. SWIP is focused and targeted at economically empowering women - ten from each of the three host communities surrounding the Segilola mine site. SWIP will continue on an annual basis throughout the project lifecycle.
In consultation with women in each community, SROL donated entrepreneurial items such as: deep freezers, refrigerators, sewing machines, pepper grinding machines and hair salon equipment to the recipients. These items enable the women beneficiaries to establish businesses in their local communities. As part of SWIP, SROL also organized a financial literacy program for the beneficiaries to facilitate improved sales and upscaling of their business.
